Laparoscopic gastric banding is type of surgery which helps to reduce the weight. The surgeon will place a band surrounding the upper part of the stomach to create a small pouch in order to hold the food. The band will restricts the quantity of the food you can eat by make you to feel full after eating small amounts of food.
Procedure

Initially you will receive general anesthesia before starting the surgery. You will be asleep & unable to the feel pain.

The surgery will be done by using a tiny camera which is placed inside the belly. This kind of surgery is known as laparoscopy. The camera is known as laparoscope. It will allows the surgeon to view inside the belly.

Initially surgeon will make 1 - 5 small surgical incisions or cuts in your abdomen. By these small cuts, the surgeon will able to place a camera & the instruments which are needed to perform the surgery.

Your surgeon will also place a band surrounding the upper part of the stomach to separate it from lower part of the stomach. This will creates a small pouch which has a narrow opening which will enters into the larger, lower part of the stomach.

The surgery won’t involve any of cutting or stapling inside the belly.

Surgery may take only 30 - 60 minutes to complete the surgery.
When you eat after performing this surgery, the small pouch will be filled up very quickly and you will feel full after having just a little amount of food. The food in small upper pouch will slowly empty into main part of the stomach.
