There are many different types a colostomy can be done. The specific method used will be based on your circumstances.
The two important surgical procedures were:

open surgery (laparotomy) – In this surgeon will makes a long cut or incision in the abdomen to get access for the colon

laparoscopic (or keyhole) surgery – In this surgeon makes many smaller cuts or incisions & uses a miniature video camera & a special surgical instruments to get access the colon
The surgery will be performed by a large cut, known as a surgical incision, in the abdomen. Or, it will be done by some small incisions. This is known as laparoscopic surgery. Laparoscopic surgery will be less invasive, which will reduce the pain and the recovery time. With two types of the surgery, patients will receive general anesthesia. During the surgery, the surgeon will attach one end of colon to stoma in the place where you can see it & care for it. Then, the doctor will attach the colostomy bag to the stoma.
