Be Aware about Liver cancer

Liver cancer is a disease condition in which normal liver cells changes their appearance and behaves abnormally. These cells may become vicious to the nearby normal cells and later spread to the other parts of the liver and body. Cancerous or malignant cells developed by the normal cells of the liver (hepatocytes) are known as hepatocellular carcinoma. A cancer originate from the ducts of the liver is known as cholangio carcinoma.

There are many causes that develop the liver cancer. Liver has a feature to filter the blood coming from all parts of the body, so it is possible that cancer cells are coming from anywhere in the body can stay in the liver and started to grow. It is highly possible that cancer developing in the gut has tendency to spread it to the liver. The liver ability to regenerate the cells also consider as development of liver cancer. Liver tumors have many types but only some has a capacity to develop cancer. The tumors are considered as benign and malignant. Malignant tumors have a capability of spreading cancer from the liver to other body parts.

Symptoms of liver cancer are -

1. Pain in upper abdomen
2. Sudden weight loss
3. Sudden loss of appetite
4. Jaundice
5. Weakness
6. White or light chalk type stools

Liver cancer can be detected by blood test, ultrasound, CT scan, and Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The treatment for liver cancer depends on the size of the cancer and whether it has spread to other parts of the body. The main treatments are:

• Liver transplant
• Cryotherapy or radiofrequency ablation
• Biological therapies
• Embolization
• Radiotherapy
• Chemotherapy
